Heading structure

The outline of your page — H1 for the title, H2 for main sections, H3 for points inside them, in order and without skipping levels.

Why it matters

AI assistants extract answers section by section, using headings as boundaries. A page with a clean question-shaped outline gets quoted; a wall of text with no structure does not.

How to fix it, step by step

Quick fix — usually under ten minutes, no developer needed.

  1. 1Break the page into at least TWO sections, each answering one question. One H2 is scored as a warning; none is a failure.
  2. 2Phrase each H2 as the question a customer would actually ask — "How much does it cost?" rather than "Pricing".
  3. 3Never skip a level: do not jump from H1 straight to H3.
  4. 4Put the answer immediately under its heading, in the first sentence or two.

How to know it worked

Reading only the headings top to bottom gives a sensible summary of the page.
