H1 heading
The single main heading of the page — the title a reader sees at the top, not the tab title.
Why it matters
It is the strongest on-page signal of what the page is about. No H1 leaves it ambiguous; several H1s split the signal so none of them is the answer.
How to fix it, step by step
Quick fix — usually under ten minutes, no developer needed.
- 1Decide the one sentence this page is about.
- 2Make that the H1 — in WordPress, the "Heading 1" block, used exactly once.
- 3Demote every other Heading 1 on the page to Heading 2.
- 4Keep it descriptive rather than clever. "Emergency Plumber in Ligonier" beats "Welcome".
How to know it worked
The page source contains exactly one <h1> and it describes the page.
